Greetings from Central Department of Mathematics, TU!

I feel privileged to welcome you to the website of the Central Department of Mathematics. It is my great pleasure to have an opportunity to serve the department, faculties, staffs, and students as the head of the department (2024-2028), and I simultaneously crave the assistance and devotion of all the faculties, staffs, and students for the overall achievement and success of the department. The Central Department of Mathematics, TU is an arena for the faculties to perform their academic and intellectual excellence. We are committed to provide, strengthen and enhance Mathematics education at all level inside and outside the university. We feel proud that our department is rich with co-operative and competent staffs to support its faculty, students, and entire university community.

This department has conducted academic program that ranges from Masters of Science and Masters of Arts (MSc/MA) to Masters in Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

The department foregrounds research in specialized areas, such as Optimization, Functional Analysis, Numerical Analysis, Harmonic Analysis, Differential Equations, Bio-Mathematics, Complex Dynamics and Number Theory independently as well as in collaboration with professors of other universities in Nepal and abroad. Our faculties are actively engrossed in research activities and have been publishing their research findings in various reputed national and international Scimago journals.  Furthermore, we are always active in hosting of various national and international conferences, seminars and workshops in different areas of mathematics and mathematical sciences.

This department has long been hosting outside speakers, colloquia, and seminars on a board in multiple topics in order to provide resources in mathematics to our students’ and faculties’ further study, and also, to develop teaching standard in the concerned subject. Tellingly, it is to prepare them capable and potential to collaborate with other centers of excellence in the home and abroad. The department prioritizes rigorous teaching and learning exercises of all the courses throughout academic year. It has collaboration with different universities, institutions, and societies in national and international levels including DAAD and Humboldt Foundation, and still practicing to develop more collaborative links. We already have successful collaboration with Nepal Mathematical Society, Chinese Mathematical Society, Indian Mathematical Society, Association of Nepalese Mathematicians in America and other societies which have massive contribution towards research. The Central Department of Mathematics has been publishing biannual peer-reviewed Journal – The Nepali Mathematical Sciences Report.

The department and mathematics subject committee aim to provide a comprehensive curriculum in undergraduate, post-graduate and MPhil levels, relevant research and career opportunities in home and abroad. Moreover, our principal goal is to achieve excellence in mathematics education with quality research in pure and applied mathematics at the department. We have received LOI acceptance letter from UGC and have expedited the process of getting QAA certificate.

Central Department of Mathematics has formed CDM Alumni Association, Nepal through which the department hopes to strengthen networking, professional development, collaborative research and mentorship to its life members. The department has formed CDM Student Council as well. This committee has been working significantly for the welfare of the students and also for the academic gratification at the department. As the head of this department, I earnestly request all the individuals to join this network to achieve benefit and contribute to build the future of mathematics and mathematicians in a definitive structure.
